By nature, i am a bit shy. On several occasions my shyness has put me to shame. but the incident that I am going to describe here, put me to great surprise. With all the joy that it brought to other people at my cost, I still feel that my wisdom was at full play when this incident took place.

It was the 15th of June last year. The days were quite hot and nights were still more hot. We were tired of the dry and hot weather. Suddenly there blew a slight breeze and I wend to sleep at about 11 p.m. Before going to bed, my mother locked all the rooms and the store, as usual. At about mid-night my mother awakened me. "There is a thief in the house",she whispered. I got up at once and found that there was some sound of uneasy movement in the store room, although it was locked from outside.
I was about to cry with fear when I heard my mother say "you should keep quite and call the neighbour". I obeyed her silently. Now, as I wanted to be sure of what she had said, once again I went to the store room from where the noise came and put my ear to the key hole. The door was intact. It was locked from outside as usual. Yet I could hear the uneasy movement of the thief from inside the room. "How did the devil manage to get in "I asked to myself. "A foolish question; thieves are very clever", was the reply I received from my intelligence self.
Anyway, giving proper encouragement to my mother, I went to call my neighbour, Mr. Sher khan, the local postman. He advised me to be fully armed before unlocking the door. There was no whispering when we returned. Now we started to talk loudly to frighten the thief and to show that he had been badly cornered. Again, there was some scratching. We drew out our knives, axes and staffs, and unlocked the door. Now we waited for thief to come out, but there was no movement. We coughed, spoke loudly, and waited long, till my nieghbour began to suspect that all this was a joke. At last, we rush in with raised axes. But there was no thief there, perhaps the devil had escaped. Now i switched the light, on, and I lean this dog ran past from between our legs as if it had been waiting for the light . This delightful incident put me to great shame because every body laughed at my foolish courage.
